Chicago Mom Survives Three Shots to Her Car, Says “I Have a Six-Year-Old to Live For”
A terrifying incident unfolded on DuSable Lake Shore Drive as a woman’s car was struck by gunfire while she was driving southbound between 18th and 26th Street. The woman, who is from Evanston, recounted the harrowing experience, describing the moment she heard gunshots and realized her vehicle had been hit.
“I heard the pow-pow sound, and I was on the phone with my friend. I said, ‘It seems like somebody just fired shots at me.’ Then I called my husband, and we pulled over. That’s when I realized somebody had fired three shots into my car,” she said.
The woman, who was cut by shattered glass, was checked by paramedics at the scene but is expected to be okay. She expressed deep fear over the close call, particularly given that one of the bullets nearly struck her head.
“It’s very scary because when I look at where one of the gunshots went, if it had gone through, it would have hit my head. Every day, I remind myself that I want to be here, alive and well, for the sake of my daughter. She’s six years old, and that’s why I always try to avoid any problems or conflicts,” she said.
Her husband was driving ahead of her at the time, as they were on their way to drop off one of their vehicles for maintenance. She reported that the shots appeared to have come from a dark-colored small model Jeep.
Authorities have yet to release further details on the incident. Chicago Police are investigating, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
