Man Charged in Stabbing of Two Provident Hospital Workers with “Sharp Object”
A Hyde Park man has been charged in connection with the stabbing of two workers at Provident Hospital in Bronzeville on Monday afternoon, according to Chicago police.
Nathaniel Price, 36, faces two counts of aggravated battery with the use of a deadly weapon following the attack, which occurred around 1 p.m. inside the hospital, located in the 500 block of East 51st Street.
Victims in Stable Condition
Authorities say a 56-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were stabbed with a “sharp object.” Both victims were transported for medical care and have since been listed in stable condition.
Price was apprehended less than 30 minutes later, according to police.
Hospital CEO Speaks Out
In response to the attack, Erik Mikaitis, CEO of Cook County Health, praised hospital staff for their quick actions in preventing further injuries.
“This situation had the potential to be tragic, and it is thanks to the quick and decisive actions of our staff that further harm was prevented,” Mikaitis said in a statement. “Incidents like this are deeply unsettling and are sadly indicative of increasing violence against health care professionals.”
Price is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday as authorities continue their investigation.
