46-year-old Woman Shot in Downtown Chicago Amid Teen Trend Gathering
A 46-year-old woman was shot and wounded Sunday evening in the busy Streeterville neighborhood amid reports of large teen gatherings in the area.
Authorities responded to the shooting at approximately 8:12 p.m. near the intersection of North Columbus Drive and Illinois Street.
According to police reports, the victim was walking on the sidewalk when she suddenly heard gunshots and felt pain in her arm. She later realized she had been shot.
A witness stated that the shooting took place in front of a Walgreens, and authorities located a shell casing at 352 E. Illinois Street.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) quickly arrived at the scene, treating the victim before transporting her to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
Following the incident, a heavy police presence was seen near the AMC River East 21 movie theater at 322 E. Illinois Street, with crime scene tape blocking off the area. Witnesses also reported hearing between five and seven gunshots near 300 E. Illinois.
As of late Sunday, no arrests had been made, and there was no suspect information available. Area Three detectives have launched an investigation into the shooting.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
